Carpet is really expensive, so anything you can do to save money on it is an extremely good idea. When installing carpet on stairs you can save a significant amount of cash buy using remnant carpet. This is the leftover carpet from big projects that is either the end of the roll or scraps cut from rooms. Remnants work perfect for stairs, and in this post I’ll show you how to get it.

Many people will start their search for carpet remnants online, on sites like eBay. This is only a great idea if you are saving a lot of money. I mean, a lot of money! The price that it will cost to ship carpet is incredible, so unless they are in an area where they can deliver it, it’s usually not worth the price.

Another great site to look at is Craigslist. You won’t have much choice in colors and such, but it’s possible to save a ton by picking up someone else’s carpet scraps, sometimes it’s even free.

If you are looking for an exact match to the type of carpet that’s in your home, look to traditional carpet stores. They collect the scraps from their installation jobs, and will probably sell them to you. Most of them won’t put a price on their remnants, so it’s up to you to negotiate with them. If you go to the place that you bought the carpet that you already have in your home, they will be more likely to help you out since you already are a customer. This isn’t always true, but it will at least improve the odds that they have the color and brand that you want.

Carpet remnants work great for stairs. You get to work with a smaller piece of carpet, so it’s easier to cut and maneuver, and you save a ton of cash. Sounds like a good deal to me!
